Celebrating 25 years of entertainment!

Celebrating 25 years of entertainment!

BREC is ready to celebrate with the South West community this February as the centre marks 25 years of entertainment!

BREC was built in 1989 and was officially opened in November 1990. It was built with the support of the South West community who raised over a third of the construction costs. To celebrate this milestone, BREC will be holding its 25th Birthday Festival from 23 to 28 February, incorporating a number of free and low-cost events for the whole community.

Events being held throughout the Festival include workshops in conjunction with the South West Multicultural Festival; a Multicultural Film Night screening of The Source; BREC Open Day incorporating performances by local community groups, guided tours of the building and workshops; and WASO in Concert with complimentary afternoon tea and post-show Q&A.

The Festival will also feature the BREC 25th Birthday Community Concert on Friday 26 February, hosted by comedian/actress Denise Scott with a performance by Australian singing sensation Samantha Jade as well as a number of pieces by the best of local talent.

"BREC's 25th Birthday is a huge milestone for the Centre and whole community," BREC General Manager Joel McGuinness said. "We are very proud that a community-run organisation continues to have such a positive impact on our City and region by enabling awesome arts and cultural experiences every day.

"We have so much to celebrate as part of the Festival. We had over 380 events on at BREC in the last financial year, with close to 80,000 people attending the Centre as audience members, conference delegates, performers, volunteers and patrons.

"We also celebrate the volunteer Board of Management, our BREC Club who volunteer every day in the Centre, our dedicated staff who work so hard and all of our partners and stake-holders who help ensure that the Centre is sustainable for the future.

"We thank all of our event partners, especially Alcoa and the City of Bunbury who have ensured that we can offer plenty of free and low-cost events during the Festival week. I am really looking forward to the multicultural movie and food night in partnership with the South West Multicultural Festival as well as the big Community Concert with Samantha Jade, Denise Scott, the best of local talent on stage AND free birthday cupcakes for everyone attending!"
