In collaboration with the City of Bunbury's The Shift Youth Arts Festival in April, BREC will host a Battle of the Bands competition on Friday 17 April at The Cube theatre.
Expressions of interest are now being sought for youth bands wanting to compete. The competition is open for unsigned bands whose members are aged 12 - 25, and have a minimum of 2 members. All styles and genres of music are encouraged, including DJs and electronic music production, acoustic, hip hop etc.
Musicians are asked to submit a high quality video recording of the band performing an original song. The winner of the Battle of the Bands will get a paid gig at BREC's Out of the Box + Into the Cube event in May.
"The Battle of the Bands as part of The Shift is something young Bunbury muso's have been wanting for years," City of Bunbury Youth Major Sean Smith said. "It's an exciting opportunity for musicians to showcase their talent and battle it out with the possibility to perform at BREC's Out of the Box + Into the Cube alongside high profile acts".
The Youth Arts Festival is a week long, youth-driven event to be held in the City of Bunbury during National Youth Week 2015. The festival will run from 13-19 April and will encompass workshops and events across the performing, visual and literary arts. Working with the theme of Revolution, the festival aims to engage the whole Bunbury community, with particular focus on skills development and community engagement for young people.
Registrations to compete in the Battle of the Bands competition open on Monday 2 February and finalists will be announced early March. Those interested in entering can download a copy of the registration pack here or call 9792 3111.
